Bus Designs

I really like these designs that I created they focus very much on colour and type.
I thought about spelling out St.Ives letter by letter on each different bus. Inside the letter will show factual information about St.Ives, but then the downside of this was that people might not understand the message.
So I have looked at different ways of how I could display the information, for example: a heart shape and a magnifying glass. I have included the important information about St.Ives in the objects.

Getting feedback on this I found that with a bus advertisement people will only be able to see the bus for a few seconds so the impact and message is the main key to this. So I need to focus on an image based advert and getting the main information across without using to much typography.

Wednesday 8 July 2009

Here are the first ideas that I came up with combining image and type together. I focussed on the main attraction in St.Ives which is the St.Ives Chapel and Bridge. Looking over it I don't think it shows what St.Ives can offer, the image also looks quite dull and is not eye catching enough if it is to be situated on the back of a bus.

I need to focus on colour and attractive and appealing imagery to attract people to visit St.Ives.

First Brief at Barter and Barrett

First day at Barter and Barrett, and I have been set a brief to persuade the general public to visit St.Ives. My Client is St.Ives Town Initiative. There is a new bus service running on rail from St.Ives to Cambridge so they are trying to get people to come back to St.Ives.
The advert will be shown on the back of bus so there needs to have impact, and a strap line that is catchy and simple to draw attention.
Here are a few images that I have looked at for inspiration.
I have looked at the main attractions in St.Ives and I have focussed on the riverside, market town and busy atmosphere of St.Ives.
I have looked at a few strap lines such as:

-Make your way and visit St.Ives
-Look St.Ives
-Think St.Ives
-Visit St.Ives
-Now you see it, its St.Ives
-Explore St.Ives
-Escape to St.Ives

Looking at the word visit I thought about using the footprint symbol and covering the whole back of the bus with this using a two colour palette, also the word look using the symbol of glasses and in the lenses have a photograph of main attraction in St.Ives for example: The bridge and Chapel.

Work Experience at Barter and Barrett

Barter and Barrett is a small design studio which is very lime green with two designers working there and rocky the dog. It is based in the Cambridgshire area so it was easy for me to walk there and back each day for two weeks.
I learnt quite alot and what it was like to work in a small enviroment, you had more of a one to one contact with the other designers and the atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly. I found it easier to approach them about the work that I was creating for their business. I had regular briefings and crits with them about the work before they sent it to see what the clients thought of it.

Some of the clients that they have worked with are Play.com, NHS, VW, RSPB. When I went there they were quite surprised that I still planned out my ideas by drawing etc as they said as soon as they went into a design job they just worked mostly digitally but they wished they still worked paper based but you have to work and react quickly to the brief to fit the tight deadlines.
